SYRMEP (SYnchrotron Radiation for MEdical Physics) is the hard X-ray imaging beamline of the Elettra synchrotron light source located in Trieste, Italy [1]. It is specialized in multiscale X-ray phase-contrast microtomography (microCT) and over the years it has been used in multifold fields. With the expected upgrade to Elettra 2.0, the new imaging station will benefit of a higher flux enabling improved time resolution, higher spatial coherence for the implementation of phase-contrast techniques and will operate in a broader energy range. In this new experimental framework, the already multidisciplinary beamline scenario will be complemented by novel research activities including dynamic studies, paleontology, high-absorbing materials science and clinical low-dose lung CT. This talk will present an overview of the beamline technical aspects as well as the future prospects for new layout and it will focus on some selected scientific cases mainly related to life science applications.

About
Dr Elena Longo is beamline scientist at the SYRMEP imaging platform of the Italian synchrotron Elettra (Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A.) since 2021. She graduated in Physics at University of Calabria (Italy) and she holds a doctoral degree in Optics and photonics from Université Paris-Saclay (France). She has worked for three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the nanotomography endstation of the P05 beamline operated by Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon at PETRA III, DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron) in Hamburg, Germany. Dr Longo has a background in synchrotron radiation-based X-ray micro- and nanotomography and phasecontrast techniques for multidisciplinary applications.
